Pre-Kindergarten – 8th Grade Program
Horizons at GFA helps students acquire the academic and social skills necessary to successfully complete high school and college. This is accomplished through our core units: the PreK-8 Program, Saturday Academy and the High School Program. Students in grades preK-8 attend Horizons for six weeks during the summer and on Saturdays during the school year. PreK – 8 Program
High School Program
Upon entering 9th grade, students enter the High School Program where they receive weekly one-on-one academic support and mentoring from an academic coach plus two weeks of college prep in the summer. During their junior year, each student is also assigned a college counselor to assist the student and family in navigating the complexities of the college admission process. High School Program
College Success Program
Over two-thirds of Horizons at GFA high school graduates are first-generation college students. Due to academic gaps, cultural differences and financial obstacles, the post-secondary completion rate of first-generation students is as low as 11%. To tackle this issue, in 2016 a systematic college support program was piloted with the goal of making sure our students not only get into college, but also complete it.
Our college success program assists Horizons at GFA students entering and currently in college with the transition to the post-secondary environment, as well as mentoring to assure degree completion and career readiness so they can attain a “meaningful, choice-filled life.”
During the 2019-20 school year, a career launch program for college juniors is in development to give them comprehensive workplace training and experience so they are competitive when they enter the job market after graduation. College Success Program
