In 2000, Greens Farms Academy launched its Horizons Program to address the achievement gap affecting neighboring Bridgeport students from lower-income families attending underserved Bridgeport’s public schools. Horizons GFA held its first six-week summer session with 26 kindergarten and first grade students from two Bridgeport schools.
Adding a new kindergarten class each summer, the program reached full K-8 capacity in 2007. In 2010, the High School Program was established to protect and build on the gains our students made in the K-8 program. To have an even earlier impact on student learning, we welcomed our first class of PreK students in June 2013. In the fall of 2016, our College Success Program was established to assist high school graduates with the transition to and completion of their post-secondary education. During the 2019-20 school year, a career launch program for college juniors is in development to give them comprehensive workplace training and experience so they are competitive when they enter the job market after graduation.
Horizons at GFA currently serves over 280 students and is one of over 65 affiliates of the Horizons National Student Enrichment Program network across the United States.
